Society Meta just announced 20% layoffs to fund AI. This is the beginning, not the end.

Upvotes

I keep seeing people treat this like its just another round of tech layoffs. Its not.

This is the first domino. Meta is literally firing people so they can afford to build the thing that replaces the rest of them. Read that again.

I've been saying this to anyone who'll listen. 12 months from now the world we're looking at right now is going to be unrecognizable. Not 5 years. Not "eventually." Twelve months.

And I'm not saying that from some safe corporate job where I can afford to be wrong. I left everything. Walked away from a career I built across three continents...

All of it. Because I genuinely believe we are watching the biggest shift in how work happens since the industrial revolution and most people are sleepwalking through it.

In 12 months there are going to be two kinds of people. People who learned how to leverage AI and built something with it. And people waiting for a universal basic income check because they thought they had more time.

Thats it. Thats the split. There is no middle ground anymore.

I'm not trying to sell anything or pitch some course. I just watched the Meta headline and felt sick because I know so many people who are still acting like this isn't coming for them. It is. It already started.

What are you doing about it? genuine question because I think about this every single day

Political Conservatives built America and Liberals deconstruct it.

You ever notice that? If you look at the actual history of the country prior to WWII (before liberalism actually took hold, which was in reality sycophantry to violent communist totalitarianism) you find that all the great progress and beautiful works that we cherish were all made by what are now considered conservatives. Huge leaps forward in technological progress, the construction of the most beautiful architecture in the country, works of art and disciplined education flourished under what the left now calls "Christofascism," i.e. being a devout Christian that believes in the US Constitution and is Patriotic.

If the left today knew the troops who stormed the beaches in WWII they would call them "fascists" for loving America to the point that they were willing to die for it. The left is completely lost in a world of absurd propaganda. None of their ideas work and the country has been in decline since they started to implement them en masse, just like all the countries in the Second World who did the same until they all collapsed.

The Chicoms are next and it's inevitable. Maybe then the country can come back to its senses.

EDIT: Ok this lie is one that I'm completely sick of hearing:

"America was built on cheap labor."

Textbook presentism.

All of the actual wealth in this country was created post WWII in the boom period that followed, based on the technological advancements facilitated prior to that period.

Before that America was considered a third rate backwater.

All of you repeat this lie over and over because the Chicoms, your favorite people, literally don't invent anything.

Wealth is created by invention, technological advancements and access to cheap energy, not cheap labor.

Which is why all of you want to make energy as expensive as possible.

Anime & Manga This show is mid at best

This whole show is trash the story starts in the middle all the best parts of the story happened before the main cast was introduced. We constantly get flashbacks of characters that are already dead and the mains cast’s most notable qualities are that they are similar to those original heros. The writers are allergic to giving the characters personality they all have the same disinterested personality and mono toned voice. There is very little character and story development, once you watch episode 1 u can literally skip the show 3 episodes at a time and miss not a thing. I seen slice of life anime that had faster pacing. This is the most glazed show in history its not complex its trash and pompous.

(FTM) Advice on looking more masculine? 1.5 years on T

Still holding out for facial hair, I started testosterone on a low dose at first so my voice just started dropping but I have great facial hair genes on both sides of the family so it might happen. It’s hard to see here but I’ve gotten pretty decent sideburns. Would some facial hair help or would it look bad?

I don’t mind looking a little feminine tbh but I’d rather look like a feminine man rather than a masc woman. I’d like to keep the hair long. I love long hair, even though I know cutting it would help me pass better. Short hair isn’t me.

Any advice is appreciated, even if it’s cutting my hair lmao. I also normally wear glasses but I’m considering getting contacts bc I think I look better without.

Convenient virtue signaling and hypocrisy remains alive and well in Seattle. A hopeful economic future does not.

It truly blows my mind that people can support these clearly unconstitutional, not to mention authoritarian, legislative actions (while pointing to rich people’s “greediness” or other disingenuous reasons for why it’s “okay” in this instance) and then turn around to “celebrate” No Kings Day and continue extolling their “virtues” on everyone with a differing opinion (aka all those “fascists”) without noticing the insane amount of hypocrisy.

For all those who feel stupid for having bought this game (again....), and think that Battlefield has a monopoly on war games, here are some alternatives where the devs care for their games and their customers;

*HLL Vietnam is coming soon

*Squad is not on console.

Rant To new celiacs

I think one of the worst parts about being celiac is other celiacs. I understand that some people have it worse than others and some people are silent. I really do get it. But the fear mongering that goes on all over social media is so disheartening.

During my diagnosis in 2022, I had such bad anxiety around food from this subreddit and tiktok.I refused to eat food that I didn't make myself for years. I was literally terrified of food. I was miserable and I hated my life. I surfed this subreddit constantly. People who have bad experiences are the overwhelming majority of the people who post on social media about celiac. DONT LISTEN TO THEM! This is the advice I wish someone gave me when I was first diagnosed.

Learn how to handle this disease on your own. It is truly the only way. If you read some of the posts on here of peoples stories, some of them dont even make sense. An example:

"I got glutened from a paper straw"

No you didn't. I'm not trying to minimize people's experiences, that's just not how celiac works.

There is a common misconception that celiac = cannot have a single molecule of gluten. This is so far from the truth and this is how the fear mongering in this community is so out of control. So let's clear something up - studies show that a celiac can consume 10mg of gluten combined per day, which is roughly 1/350 of a slice of bread. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it's about half the size of a penny. So between all of your meals for the entire day, you can safely consume a crumb of bread that is roughly half the size of a penny, even for the worst and most symptomatic celiac.

For the majority of celiacs who are not among the worst 1% as far as being reactive, this is what cross contact is. When I go to Chipotle, a literal visible chunk of tortilla would have to be in there for me to feel anything. This may come as a surprise to those, like myself, who were made to believe that an amount of gluten, not even visible to the human eye could ruin my whole weekend. It's just simply not true.

It is not possible to never consume another molecule of gluten for as long as you live. You need to accept that and let that go. This is why it's important to not intentionally eat gluten or "cheat" as a celiac. You have to save your exposure for accidents and cross contact, because it is inevitable. You cannot avoid it, it will happen in your life. You know what else? You will also live to tell the story. If you get pasta at a restaurant and they cooked it in regular pasta water, you're going to feel like shit for sure. But you won't get colon cancer and die an early death like people on social media will make it sound.

I eat chipotle. I eat Jersey mikes. I try new restaurants even when there's a chance of cross contact. If I feel like shit after, I just don't eat there again and move on with my life. I got ice cream last week and there was a chunk of cookie in my sprinkles that I tasted after the fact. I lived. In fact, I didn't even feel it at all. I accidentally ate a full blown flour cookie shortly after I was diagnosed. I was bed ridden all weekend and looking back, I was bed ridden with anxiety.

I guess my point is, to the new celiacs, don't consume celiac content for a while. Figure it out for yourself with your doctor and nutritionist, and then consume celiac content when you're already comfortable. There's a trend going around about how paper plates contain gluten??? Come on. Just use your head. Even if they were true, there's not nearly enough on there to get in your food and make you sick unless you eat like 20 paper plates. Just be logical and think about how things are made. Yeah sure, maybe don't eat french fries that were fried in the same fryer as mozzarella sticks. But if your shampoo says it has wheat in it, unless you have a wheat allergy or eat shampoo, you are fine. Don't make the mistake of letting this disease control your life like I did for so long. Don't give into the anxiety, don't give into the fear mongering. Go out and live!

Gekaufte Tiere

Kurzer Rant !

Why exactly is Alexi Lalas so disliked by people?

As someone who knows a little bit about Soccer, Alexi Lalas is the one names I'm the most familiar with and I've noticed that he seemed to be rather disliked by people and I genuinely want to know why that's the case.

Because outside of the soccer stuff and sports reporting etc, I've seen him do quite a few cameos to people sending them a nice message, and him sharing his other love for music from time to time. And from what I've seen of that at least from my prospective, he came across as a pretty cool dude overall but I must be wrong due to how many people seem to dislike him. So I really want to know why he's so disliked and I'm hoping anyone who sees this will be happy to answer this question.

I feel like people are pretty vastly overestimating the power of 40k in these conversations

This is a bit of a rant but i seriously doubt any 40k faction ever wins a mass scale battle against the star wars galaxy ever reguardless of canon or legends Simply because things take too long in 40k or have other glaring downsides. The imperium is easiest to point out so ill use them as the example.

So in the imperium if you want to send a message offsystem, you need to either send a courier ship which can easily be blockaded or for instant communication use an astropath which can also be shut off and is rare enough that usually if a planet goes silent for a moment thats not out of the ordinary otherwise the nids main attack method would fail

Compare this to star wars where the holonet exists so not only does instant cross system communication exist in star wars but its common enough to google things and get on a videochat with someone across the galaxy.

This alone would be such a massive damn near overwealming advantage for star wars and its just communications.

But theres more too, in 40k, crossing the galaxy is an odyssey thst takes on average a year if youre lucky.

Then in star wars this whole event takes two weeks for a very weak hyperdrive and days for a strong one.

This is a minimum 25x speed advantage which again means that the starwars galaxy should just outright swamp the entire imperium near instantly. They can literally choose to have the entire galaxies millitary to fight every single planet if they wanted too and be back to defend their own.

And the rates for building new warmaterial in 40k is downright disgusting as well, cruisers can take a decade to be made even by very good forgeworlds on average according to early battlefleet gothic manuals.

Compare this to star wars where countless millions of droid ships were made in half a decade during the clone wars or in 20 years a fleet of thousands of planetkillers you cant block can be made in secret

The production rates alone would doom the imperium.

This isnt even talking about the vast overestimation of ability from the individual units. People were seriously discussing if vader could beat a primarch when vader could fully lift the much larger ATAT and destroy it with the force while angron the (muscle strength) strongest primarch struggled to pick up a single foot of a warhound titan.

I get that 40k has some strong stuff but this is like if you gave the ancient greeks (the imperium) instructions on how to make a stealth bomber without any of the materials or tools and sent them to fight ww1 europe
